West Coast Railways Applies for new Exemption, While Jacobite Services are Suspended (21.03.24)

West Coast Railways has submitted a new exemption application to the Office of Rail and Road after the original exemption was revoked back in January after a court decision which meant its coaches could not be used on its charter services becuase central door locking was not fitted.
The heritage train operator has so far this year used Mark 2 coaches on its tours which already have central door locking fitted.
But with the start of the Jacobite season and the busy summer approaching and more rakes needed in service, West Coast Railways has submitted a new exemption application to the Office of Road and Rail, with the hopes that a temporary exemption would allow its services to operate without central door locking, on the rakes which don't yet have it fitted. But with this likely to take some time, and the ORR decision awaited, West Coast Railways has temporarily suspended its Jacobite services which were due to start on 28th March.
